Belfast Troubles Tour

What a fascinating day yesterday was !!!

I brought 3 delightful people from Palm Beach, Florida on a spellbinding trip to Belfast. After picking my guests up at their Dublin Hotel we first made our way to the beautiful Slane Castle, in Co. Meath.

Slane Castle is located in the Boyne Valley of County Meath, Ireland. The castle is owned by the Conyngham family since it was built in the 18th century. It’s best known for hosting rock concerts since 1981. Many world famous bands performed here over the years including The Rolling Stones, U2, Guns N Roses, Queen & The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The grounds has an 80,000 person capicity.

Next stop was to the High Crosses & Round Tower of Monasterboice in the County of Louth.

Monasterboice is one of Ireland’s earliest Christian sites established in the 5th century. Here we visited the magnificent High Crosses and Round Tower. The Tower was originally thought to have been a refuge from the Vikings but it may also have served as a bell tower. The tower is the second tallest in Ireland. The two Celtic Crosses at this site are know to be two of the finest high crosses on the Island.

We set off for the City of Belfast about an hours drive north. Here we got a guided 2 hour tour by Brian, a local Belfast taxi driver & professional guide who lived through the troubles in Northern Ireland. My 3 guests were simply amazed by his overwhelming stories and the astonishing sites of murals, gates and walls.

We then set off to the charming sea side village of Annagassan and enjoyed the freshest crab fish for dinner before been entertained by a dozen Traditional Irish Musicians in the warmth of the fabulous Glyde Inn Pub & Restaurant.

As I said …. What a day !!!!
